You are the one who has to decide whether a career is "worthwhile," but I'll share my point of view. There is definitely a group of people who investigate paranormal phenomena; their community considers it a science, while most other scientists consider it at best a pseudo-science.
As a whole, I believe the demand for people in these jobs to be low vs. the supply (meaning: it would be hard to get a decent job in it). If you want to take it seriously, you would probably need a graduate degree (PhD probably) to really study it. Personally, I encourage you to try to figure out what it is you find so interesting about the subject and find out what more "mainstream" fields incorporate those things. Perhaps psychology / neuroscience.

I find it to be a fascinating subject. My advice, study astronomy/aeronautics and either work for NASA or a some other organization that studies space. Then with all your knowledge and assets make it your silent vow to discover an alien communication or species. Then in your spare time you can have a hobby of studying other paranormal things like the occult or whatever you may prefer.

Yeah, don't waste your time. You can't get a real degree in astrology, parapsychology, or cryptozoology. However, check out these guys - James Randi, Michael Shermer, Joe Nickell - they all study the paranormal, but from a scientific point of view. That's really the best you could do with it.

It's not wasting time. You can also be a psychiatrist but provided you know much about spirits. I think you should go for the careers. I know whats being a psychiatrist. You will feel frustrated & lose patience till the end of the day by listening to people's problems. If you burst out your frustration on the people who come to you at the end of the day, you can lose patients.

Therefore, I insist you to go for the other oppurtunities.

Keep it as a hobby, for all the reasons already given by other posters. Despite the entertainment value it may have on tv, it is FAR from being taken seriously, and for that reason it is not something most people can actually earn a living doing.

Yeah, sure sweetheart. get a particle accelerator, strap it to your back, rent an old firehouse, and restore a sixties ambulance, and paint a cartoon ghost on the side. So, how many of your parents children lived?
I would also learn how to spell, or at the very least learn to use spell check.

No. Paranormal anything implies it's not normal. There is no scientific basis for it and no science that studies it. It's mostly a cult following with tons of con artists claiming to be real experts.

You can get into demonology and help a lot of people. However, as someone mentioned, parapsychology is still not very respected as a science. What you can do, if you're interested, is to go into electronics. Parapsychologists use alot of electronic instruments.
