Optimism towards something inevitable is denial. To have a bright outlook on things with proper action, however, is change and correction. You know, I've never really thought about that!

Yes, optimism still needs to include reality. How about this for an example: You meet this guy and the relationship is going great. You are so happy and optimistic you will be with him for a long time. Then you find out he has changed girlfriends 6 times in the past year. You think it will be different with you but you are in denial. Optimism is not a good thing now.

For sure. I know alot of people who tell themselves everything is okay while the world itself is crashing down behind them. I don't know if it is necissarily a bad thing, though...it kind of depends on the situation. Sometimes there are people who are too optimistic, i want to punch in the face and be like "Do you not realize what is happening? Don't get your hopes up!" but sometimes it is just what keeps people going. Maybe optimism=denial and denial=hope. :]

Especially in those who have no touch with reality. People that tend to exagerrate because they have to be right all the time? Those people get unrighteously optimistic all the time! People that don't understand the hear and now and are stuck on "the rapture" and glorify messages and can't evaluate mathematically because they are addicted to substances or sex or whatever and don't have the concentration to do any better. Beware of such types.

Yes, but I still think it's much preferable to be optimistic than pessimistic. Pessimism gets you nowhere, but optimism gives you the drive and hope for something better.

It's the prince of emotions. However, reality does tend to butt in, oh, so often! This is where experience, inquiry, advice, intuition, education, etc., temper one's hopefulness.
PS. It's physically far healthier, too!

Absolutely. I do think that anything is possible, but I think it takes some action on an individual's part too.
