I think you might have written this problem down wrong because there is no denominator to rationalize.

If you mean sqrt3 / (x + sqrt5)

then multiply this fraction by (x - sqrt5) / (x - sqrt5)

you get:

(sqrt3(x) - sqrt15) / (x^2 - 5)

james is correct. you do not want roots in the denominator and your problem does not show any.

You maybe looking for this

sqrt3 (x-sqrt5) ................sqrt3(x-sqrt5)
------------------------ = ---------------
x + sgrt5 (x-sqrt5)........... x^2 -5
