I havnt recieved my W-2s yet, but my employer said they have sent out everyones. I have to wait for a second copy. I know for a fact i wont owe any money. Do i still have to file for an extension?

Yes, you are required to. This will keep the IRS from contacting you when they find they have W-2 information that wasn't shown on a tax return.

But if you don't file for an extension, there won't be a penalty for filing late as long as you don't owe.

In any case, file as soon as possible.

You need to file an extension if you are not able to file by the due date, regardless of whether you owe anymore money than you have already paid.

Yes. If you don't there is a penalty regardless whether you owe or get a refund. You don't want them to keep any of your money do you?
