If somebody gives you one it is free. It's a hardware part you buy and open the computer case to install.
Go to the computer store, buy the card you need, unplug the tower, open the case, ground yourself to avoid static, locate and unplug the various wires to the old video card and replace with a new one, reconnect the wires, etc..
or pay someone else to do it for you but it's not really that difficult if you are handy.

The minimum size graphic card you need to play the Sims 2 and have everything be smooth is a 256MB graphics card. You need to find out what type of graphic slot you have on your motherboard. Your current graphics card should be situated in a slot on your motherboard. There are two new types of slot s, one called a PCI Express 16 slot, otherwise known as a PEX16; the other is the PCI Express 1, or PEX1. These new slots are phasing out the AGP slots, which were better than regular PCI slots because AGP slots were for graphic card use only, whereas dial-up modems, audio cards, and video cards could be plugged in to the PCI slots. You can go to www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com to look at prices. The median price for a 256MB graphics card is around $150, depending on the brand, like eVGA or ASUS.
Don't get an ASUS card. I had one and the heatsinks kept falling off. I have an eVGA 256MB nVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT KO. That's a great card.

Look where your monitor is plugged into. That's the video card. It's either a separate card, or it's on the main board. Go get yourself a nice video card. I like ATI brand, but others work, too. Open your computer, follow the instructions on how to install it and play games all day!

You will have to purchase or have someone give you a video card. Changing the card requires opening the case of your computer and replacing the old card.
