Hello, my oscar has had this problem for some time, recently it has become worse. Just took the pictures today. It shares the tank with a small ciclid that runs scared most of the time, and is not aggressive toward the Oscar, and there is a Pleco, any help is appreciated. I bought some all natural antibiotic today. Just not sure what could have lasted this long (months)? Picture here: http://www.firstdeaf.org/fish

This happens alot with oscars. every time i had an oscar, it always ended up with a disease. My best suggestion is to buy some medication and use lots of salt to relieve stress. also change the water in your tank.

I think fin rot or it is possible that it may have been bitten .....

Get him to the vet asap!!

That is a slow moving disease indeed. It appears form the photo that skin has even healed over part of the problem area. That honestly appears to be an injury that was partially healed and got infected. Any number of bacterial infections can cause this type of problem if it was an injury. If not, then fin rot is the most likely suspect even though it usually moves much faster than you describe. Treat the fish with a good antibiotic such as Maracyn for 14 days or so and that should stop any further damage. Don't expect anything to grow back in the damaged area as it is into the flesh and has damaged the fin beyond repair. Hope that helps.

I'm thinking hole in the head, but i'm not an expert.

i suggest you go to www.fishprofiles.com and post on there. with such a good picture they will have you sorted in no time.
