How do I get my gun rights back in the state of Illinois?

In 1996 I was convicted of a class X felony, I was going to Join the Marines to get my record expunged and my gun rights back, but someone told me that I just have to write the senate and ask to be expunged. Is this true? I need some good advice before I sign my life away. Someone please help me.

You need to talk to a lawyer there in Illinois. Almost any advice you get here is pure speculation if not outright BS.
