Grandma was aware of on going adoption, never fought it, never tried to see them (even before the adoption). Now here we are two years later, the children have been removed from the abusive and drug addicted father, and she has had no contact. Now she wants the kids, I love my kids and want what is best for them, but they don't know her anymore, and I can't guarantee she can be trusted with them..... I just don't know what to do

Well you can always allow her to meet with them (and you) in a public place..a place you feel secure and trust.

If the bio father has no more legal rights neither does the bio grandparents and they can only ask. Then you as the parent gets to evaluate on if you think they should.

*I* would suggest at least one meeting on your terms to see how it plays out. The grandparents are still the grandparents biologically even if not legally any longer. I think you should give them a chance. If you don't feel its safe for your kids then you don't have to allow them to see them anymore. But what if they are great grandparents. You are denying them more love that they deserve.

Fight it, make her take you to court to see the children. Most states so not have grand-parent laws anyway. Where was she when the kids were taken from the father. You take those kids and raise them, They will be given the knowledge one day and if they choose to go back and look up any of the family then, that is their choice. As long as the kids are young under 18 I would not. Who knows what all she will tell the kids. She will make up lies, or make excused for the father... Just tell her no, and she needs to move on. Do not give another thought,

Grandparent rights is a growing portion of family law. There are lawyers that specialize in these rights. I would contact such an attorney. You don't want to mess around with the law.

Try finding a lawyer by going to http://www.legalmatch.com (sort of the match.com of lawyers)
http://www.targetlaw.com (search engine with only lawyers listed)

You have to check your state law because Grandparents do have rights and if it was their son who was abusive you might also check to see if he is in contact with his parents also you should contact the DSS or DHS in your town or county and ask an intake worker or check with the juvenile court.

I don't believe Grandparents have any "legal" rights. But I would suggest contacting the lawyer that handled the adoption ASAP.

I believe it is 30 days after the court order, in most states.

The kids deserve to have a relationship with her no matter your feelings. make sure the courts are involved so you can make sure the well being of the kids comes first and foremost on her part..
