I have always went with picture frames- you can find all kinds-sometimes they even will have the theme around the out-side of the frame if you know what interest this person has. You can never go wrong with a frame.
They do have clocks out now that are real neat . They have all the numbers have fallen to the bottom and it says at the top Whatever! They are real neat!

A photo album of all of he's crew that worked for him along with a pen or cuff links with boss written on them arhhhhhhhh

A newspaper from the day he started the job - easily obtainable, just search the internet for suppliers.

Ring his family and ask them what his interests are....he'll appreciate the effort you've gone to....there's nothing worse than copping out and buying them a clock....who wants to be reminded that they've got more time behind them than in front of them....grrrrrrrr!

a minature greenhouse as he will have plenty of time for gardening..never a watch....how sad to have to watch his life tick by. I'm sure he has plenty of pens too.
get him some seeds and maybe a book of local short walks...

no watches...just a reminder he is retired w/ all the time in the world.....no pen...

goody basket sounds good w/ the pic of all his co-workers...i think he'll like that.
