Jimmy Carter -- no question.
Bush has bungled the War in Iraq, but the economy is thriving and the cost of living has remained low.
Carter ruled over gas shortages, terrible recession and a 400+ day hostage situation. and if those things don't convince you, he also gave away our controlling interest in the Panama Canal (which has now been bequeathed by the Panamanians to the Chinese - doh!)

First of all Bush's presidency is not over. You cannot judge a President until long after he has left office and the impact of his actions are known. Secondly, you must have a crystal ball to say with such certainty that Bush's "mistakes" will cost us. What if when the smoke clears in Iraq there is a much higher level of stability in the middle east? The entire world would benefit from that for decades. Carter was a brilliant man, an honest man, a hard working man and a well-intentioned man. His problem was and is he can't see the forrest through the trees. And IMO he was a GREAT politician and campaigner. Bush's greatest problem is he's a terrible salesman. A lot of his ideas are good but he can't convince people
of that. I believe that history will remember Bush a lot more kindly than people think.

There are many differences
Carter came in post VietNam people were fed up with War & Lies. The treasury was depleted from years of war, taxes were levied to pay down the debt. And The Liberal Media hated Carter. They complained about him wearing white socks with tennis shoes. His brother was in the News almost daily. They mocked him over the helicopter crash. When in actuality no sand proof helicopter existed then.
Bush on the other hand came into a strong America. With the support of the media. Plus he got the unearned support for 911 By reason of his office many ralled to his side.

Would you rather be punched or kicked?
Just to let some know that, inflation rose to 12%, unemployment to 7.5%, and volatile interest rates reached a high of 20 percent when Carter was in office.
Imagine your mortgage now if the rate was 20%, lol.

Carter has been one of our weaker presidents and he won't go away. He has had several failures AFTER his presidency. GW has not HAD his presidency yet. That is to say, it is not over until it's over. Maybe your assessment could be in error. Maybe GW has not done the damage to the country but all those that HATE him have done it by not joining forces with GW and doing what would be the best for the country. True, he has made some foreign policy mistakes but he has also done some good.

Both were terrible.
Carter did little during the hostage crisis. And Bush's blunders have cost America's credibility.

GWB.....Jimmy was sincere, honest, which made him a tough sell in the sewers of politics. GWB dwells in them and excels there, but time and history are against him. monumental ego, hubris, criminal misjudgment, catch up with you but it takes like 6 years or so.
