My friend says he will have to pay, but I say he doesn't. Just so that she is prepared and knows that she may possibly have to end up supporting her son on her own, who is right?

If he signs over his rights, then no he is no longer required to pay child support or to provide anything for that child, ever. Just make sure that your friend gets all of the family's medical history before the guy disappears.

It really depends on the situation-IF the father is signing over his rights just so he doesn't have to pay support then a judge CAN take away his parental rights BUT still make him pay support.
If the father is signing over his rights because he knows that he isn't a good father then it may be a different story.

Judges don't even have to accept that a child is being "signed over" the like to see that their is going to be someone there to take care of the child.

It mostly happens when the custodial parent is getting remarried and their will be another "parent" there.

It depends on your state in some states the laws are different if he gives up his parental rights and there isn't another man who is willing to adopt the child then he has to still support the child even though he has given up his parental rights,so that the child does not become dependent on the state for support.

The laws may vary from state to state. In Kansas, if he signs the birth certificate, he is responsible for the child unless another man adopts the child and the father gives up rights to.

Signing over all parental rights means that he signs off his right to ever claim the child as well as his responsibility to pay for the child.

I knew someone that signed off his rights. The only thing that he had to pay was the back child support that was owed.

im going through a similar situation. If he signs over all rights, that means in the eyes of the law that he is not the father of that child. if he isnt the father, he does not have to support them.

No if he signs over his rights he is in no way responsible for the child. It's the same as putting it up for adoption.

The law is very clear on this, once he signs away his rights to the child, he is no longer obligated to pay childsupport for the child. Your friend is wrong.

No. If he signs away his legal rights he is relieved of all parental rights including child support.
