snails and slugs are both male and female. when breeding, they will find another snail and mate. as long as there is 2 snails ( or even 1!!) they will lay eggs. when i had 1 snail, i put it with my fish and it ended up with thousands. it took time to get rid of them because there eggs get left in the tank when cleaning

Thats hard to say, some snails have only 1 sex (mail or female) while others are hermaphrodites ( have both sex at the same time). You better tell us the type of snail first. But since you bought it I bet its one of these, check the link. Some of this sort of snail look quite different (they are all sort of large, not pond snails, but its a large group), so look about on the site, lots of info and sex determination too.

No snail has one gender. They constantly change to adapt. All you need is two snails to have baby snails. Snails are Its.

It's very tough to sex a snail, because their reproductive organs are pretty well hidden deep within their shell. You can get a general idea which is which if you see them mating-however if you have an apple snails it will spontaneously change gender!

Snails are hermaphrodites. It means they are both. Thta's why they're so hard to stop breeding in the tank and dominating. Hope this helps.
