If you are a professional driver, the CDL is your lively hood. A court can suspend your ability to drive your personal automobile,( except to and from work), but will rarely suspend your CDL because you would then be unable to earn a living and may become a burden upon the taxpayers of your community

All any CDL is an amendment to your license allowing you to drive a truck etc. So if your license is suspended that is it. In the old days before 1990 depending on the state you could drive a big rig but not a car under those circumstances.

I didn't know they could.... as far as i know, in this state, you can only have one or the other. Not both. (colorado~ I may be wrong.... but my father in law has a cdl, but doesn't need a regular license). Good luck, hope you find your answer!
