5-6 weeks is pretty young to see a heartbeat....don't worry about it just yet. When you go back in 2 weeks they should see a heartbeat then...Good luck and god bless!!!

I had an ultrasound at 6.5 weeks or 6 1/2 weeks. THey could see the sack but not the baby so they did a vaginal ultra sound. There they could see the baby, a heart beat, and she said the surrounding fluid of the baby looked good.
I hope they just did a tummy ultra sound so you can go back and request a vaginal. I am also going back on April 10th to further varify the pregnancy.
Good luck and ask for a vaginal if they have not already done one. THey can see the baby better that way !

Hi, im unsure as to why they didnt tell you, you have a right as a mum to be, to know...... If there was something wrong, i would have thought they keep you in hospital? Have you had any bleeding? I cant be sure but thought that the heartbeat cant be detected as early on as 5 to 6 weeks. Im not medically trained so please dont take what I say as the truth. COuld you go to your doc and have it explained by him/her? I do hope that things will be fine, maybe its just a precaution? I remember seeing my baby at 7 weeks and it was very hard to see on the screen so they may have turned it away thinking you wouldnt know what you were looking at as such an ear;y stage? im just guessing... good luck and god bless.

my early pregnancy unit told me it best to get a heartbeat at 8 weeks.. as they will def get the heartbeat... anytime before and the embryo is so small it may not be detected! my babies heartbeat was detected at 7weeks 1 day.. but only by internal scan.. not on the over the belly scan... so no dont worry at all yet... at 5-6 weeks it is meant to look like a egg u have broken into a dish.. at 7 week sit looks like a wriggly grain of rice with no sac..

I've had it go both ways. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks (they actually couldn't find anything on the ultrasound). And, I had bleeding at 6 weeks, ultrasound, sac, and what she thought might be a heartbeat (very small flicker on an older ultrasound machine), baby is now 4 months old. At this point you should assume that everything is normal, and if you start bleeding or cramping call your doctor.

Likely option is that the baby is just to small to see, baby at that stage is little more than a cluster of cells i had my first scan 10 weeks and was only 24mm then - try not to concern yourself to much (easier said than done i know) as stress is the last thing you need.

i think around 10 weeks is whilst a doctor would desire to take heed to the heart beat. At 5 weeks, it would nevertheless be too early, because it has extremely some progression and turning out to be to do. purely wait it out and notice what occurs at your next appointment. better of luck!
