Me and tousands more like me, are sick of this back and forth empty political jargon. Why can't some Ross Perot-esque (well maybe not Perot) Why can't some third party hero come riding down the middle and slam dunk a political election? Is the system that flawed?

The libertarians don't want any government involvement. No health inspection, etc. They think that food manufacturers will find it in their own best interest to provide pure food. Basically, they count upon the market place to look out for their own best interests, which will also be the best interest of the consumer. The Republicans have deregulated a lot of things and cut funds for inspectors. I don't see where it's resulted in good things for the common person.

There does need to be change, but this country is unfortunately set up for a two party system. We either need to change to a parliamentary system (not likely) or work with one party or the other to make it more effective. Join one party or the other and get involved. Try to change it from the inside.

The problem is that there are so many people who do their voting based on party ties. If they are democrat, then they vote democrat, if they are republican they vote republican. A third party candidate has a lot to over come in this situation. There are many votes that this person will probably never be able to get because some people just vote straight ticket for whatever party they happen to like.

What would need to happen is a lot of disillusionment in both of the parties and a very solid libertarian (or other party) candidate who is funded well enough to get the advertising that he/she will need. Then there is a chance.

The system is flawed. Mainly, because people think that voting for a third party is wasting your vote if they will only see that if they all voted for a third candidate it would shake the very foundations of the two-party system. Democrats and Republicans haven't done anything to us, they expect everybody to flock to them because they're the biggest parties. I'm a Libertarian and I find this left and right, red and blue crap sickening. There is more to partisan hackery and who is right or wrong, real issues are at hand. Our personal freedom is in jeopardy, our economic stand in the world is crumbling down, what future are we going to give our children? This mindless two party thinking? The future is very bleak and flawed.

The sad fact is that an independent won't get the votes needed.

Rep and Dems are now split on moral issues so the divide is large and an independent would prob fall to the left or right for most people.

I'd like to grab the best of both worlds but alas...I simply fall in line with the Reps. Yeah, moral issues is rather large for me

I think our best hope is Barack Obama. He can bring people
together and work with people. He has new ideas, and inspires people. Hilary is polarizing. I think we will see Obama
win the nomination in the end. I'd like to see a Obama/Edwards ticket and possibly Wes Clark as secretary of defense. I'd like to see Madeline Albright be part of the administration also. Obama has different life experiences than the other candidates. I hope you give Obama a real hard look before you decide. As far as long political experience goes...... Bush/Cheney has a ton of experience and look what that got us. Time for someone besides a Clinton or Bush. Time for someone who is not a white male with gray hair.

Nutjobs like Ann friggin' Coulter keep claiming to speak for the libertarians, which is scaring the actual libertarians into tail-tucking, squeaky silence (meep, meep, meep!). And you already made your point about Perot (damn, I miss him), with his little crazy self. What this country needs is a true independent, with a butt-load of money, and who might actually be sane.

Libertarians are too small to impact the elections. Most Americans desperately want Socialism and 70% tax rates asap. But if you can vote for the candidate who supports smaller government and freedom you will slow our demise.

I agree. We need an independent Hero. The bickering between Dems/Reps is destroying America!
