Was it rude of the server at Shari's Restaurant to cop an attitude at me when she was walking by me and I've asked her that if she had a moment would she give me a refill on my drink and then she would cop an attitude at me telling me that she was busy cause she was on her way to serve another customer?

Then she later apologized for her attitude and she told me that she doesn't like it when people are calling her when she's on her way to help another customer, plus the majority of the waiters/waitresses don't seem to enjoy working at Shari's and they only seem to be there for the money and the tips.

I am a Server. I enjoy my job. I am there because it fits with my husbands job. No daycare this way and I make just about the same as him. A server who likes their job is a ton nicer than one who is just there cuz that is all there is for her.

I would have to disagree with some of the other answers.

It is very rude to the other customers if you wave her down or try to tell her something while she is at a table. But telling her you need a refill is not rude. She may or may not have noticed. The nice way of putting it would have been Sure I will be right back or giving you some sort of signal that she would be right with you. She should never tell you she is too busy. They way you worded it "had a moment" is a lot nicer than things I have heard.

As for not tipping the server. We get taxed on what the government thinks we are getting for tips. If you don't tip we still have to claim it as if we did.

The Manager in most restaurants most likely will not give you your meal for free. They might offer you a free dessert or drink.

Yes she was very rude, she could've politely told you that she'll be right there and she should've been checking on you more often for your refills and what you've requested was supposed to be a part of her job, if she didn't like your request then she has no business being there at all, if I were you I would've reported the situation to the manager and I'm sure that the manager would've done something to prevent this from happening again.

I've been to Shari's before and their service is not very good and the waiters and waitresses seem to be rather unfriendly towards the customers and they also don't seem to be enjoying their jobs at all, their food isn't really all that great either.

It was rude for her to do that I do agree with that. As for some of the comments posted. Maybe you should spend the day serving jerk-offs like yourselves and see if you say the same thing then. I am a server in a restaurant in Virginia and I would much rather lose my job cussing out some of you. In fact that would bring great satisfaction. There's plenty of jobs out there for $2.13/hr (that's what I make in VA.) If any of you actually realized exactly what a waitress does you would have a better understanding. I do understand there are some crappy, sorry *** servers out there. But for the ones that work their butts off to be at your beck and call and can't really help the fact that things go wrong and believe me things do go wrong; I think you're judging way too harshly. For the ones that are trying to get a free meal, it'll probably work because you're cheap and you'll complain until you run out of complaints; and the ones that don't leave a tip...trust me you are remembered as the "ones that don't tip" and believe me when I say- That's exactly why your service was bad. Servers work their butts off just the same as all of you probably do- even the ones that slack.

P.S.- She noticed your drink empty long before you said something to her she was just too lazy to fill it.

I think it was unprofessional of her to say this and then explain her attitude. I would have tipped her very little if she truly had a horrible attitude. If she said something like "just a moment - be right with you" that would have been a professional response to your request.

I think most wait staff, especially those at places such as Shari's are these for money and tips, however, they should develop a better repertoire with their customers to get better tips - but perhaps they find that in certain places customers don't seem to tip well regardless. Who knows?

Very rude of her! And to use the excuse that she doesn't like people calling out to her if she is serving another table is such a lame excuse. She is being paid to do a job of serving customers, no matter when their requests are made. I hate when servers or clerks in a store are rude to customers then use some lame excuse that they don't like to be interrupted or that they are very busy or whatever it may be. Come on, who does like being interrupted when you are busy doing something at work or has never had a busy day at work. Please you took this job knowing that people were going to be asking you for things!!!

Even if a customer is being rude to the server, the server should still show some respect, at least in front of other customers. But always remember, when you are rude to a server, you can't see into the kitchen or staff area.

It sure was very rude of her copping an attitude when you were politely asking her for a favor, if she wanted to be a waitress she should've been there for you and the other customers and she should've been making sure your glass wasn't empty.

I've had poor customer service at Shari's before and I will never step inside that restaurant again, if you want to dine at a restaurant to where you can get good service, go to Applebee's

It's pretty rude of her to automatically assume that you knew that she was on her way to help another customer. It doesn't matter whether or not it makes her mad. She is on the clock, working. Therefore, she needs to be a professional. I would have told her that it was rude and even though she is sorry, she should have bit her tongue and asked you nicely to hold on. Or even if she didn't think that you were important enough to help you, she should have said, I'm sorry, I'm on my way to get something for someone else. I'll be more than happy to have someone else get that for you." And was she YOUR server the entire time? If she was, I would have stiffed her for that alone. Also, you should take this issue to her manager. Again, you shouldn't be treated like junk, especially since you're helping her make rent.

She was not a professional. A good waiter/waitress prides themselves on helping as many as possible whenever they can. Even if that customer is another waiter's customer. You were probably right when you said the staff were unhappy there. That makes a huge difference.

It was rude of her. But being a waitress, I understand her point. At least she apologized for her attitude. I've met too many people in this business who continue a nasty attitude with customers after something like that. PS - Most waiters/waitresses do not enjoy their job and are only doing it for the money. For a lot of us it's a temporary jig (going through school, staying home with our babies, etc.)

Yes she was being very rude, she was paid to serve you and the other customers and she should've been keeping an good eye on her customers while they're dining.

If I were you I would never go back to that place again.
