IQ scores can be different on different tests. The only true number is a percentile. It is a number that tells the percent of people who have gotten a lower score than you on the same test. In order to join Mensa you need to be at the 98 percentile meaning that you are more intelligent than 98% of the population. On the two tests I took for Mensa the requirements were between 145-150. An IQ of 100 would be considered a 50 percentile.

Both are considered "genius".

The 150 point guy can get the answers on the IQ test -- he might not get them all right, or he will just get enough right, under the time-deadline to get to the genius level

The 185 point guy can get all the answers the 150 point guy gets right and then some, but much faster.

The 185 point guy will be quicker to answer the tough questions.

According to most charts there is not much of a difference between those IQ's. Anything over a 140 is considered genius or near genius.

The only relevance in the IQ test is that to have a decent and time worthy conversation with somebody it is best to stay within 30 point of each other. But then again, who goes introducing themselves with their IQ score.

It just depends on how you answered specific questions on a specific day. If you take that IQ test again tomorrow I almost guarantee that the results would be diffrent.

The difference between a genius-- e.g., a ninth grader who writes a novel-- and a kindergartner who takes college-level physics.

HUGE gulf.
