Your not alone. This is definitely a self-esteem issue. You have to tell yourself your beautiful before you can accept it from someone else. For example if you know that you are intelligent it is easy to accept a compliment when someone says "oh so smart", oppose to if you feel a negative self image of yourself and someone says "your sexy". Basically you dont agree with them.

Sometimes.... but I'm usually guarded. Always have been, just a little "stand offish"..... so when someone compliments me... I look for an ulterior motive. (although as I get older... I have been able to more readily accept that some, just compliment because it's in their nature)

Nope...I'm quite terrible at it. I have no idea why. I'm much better at taking compliments on non-physical attributes, like intelligence, thoughtfulness etc. I'm awful if someone tells me I'm pretty...sexy..beautful, etc. I literally want to tell then to shut up, and I have to clamp my jaw shut so I'm not rude.

i'm always surprised, i have a good opinion of me, it just catches me off gaurd, but i do accept them graciously, i have to i'm southern! to say oh no, or not this old thing etc etc etc would seem rude, implying that the compliment was insincere. we have a lot of rules for this southern hospitiality thing! lolol

If its from someone i know, and about my personality, or something I have done, Its ok. I don't really like compliments from strangers tho.
