Shoeless Joe Jackson was the first and only player to do so - he hit .408 in 1911 for the Cleveland Naps (who would change their name to the Indians a couple years later).

The first player from any Cleveland team was Jesse Burkett, who hit .409 for the Cleveland Spiders (a team that went defunct after 1899) in 1895.
