I think we all know what lies at the heart of terrorism: hatred. Is threatening the terrorists' lives - lives they don't value anyway - really the best way to go about ending terrorism?

Quite right. It's all about the next life for these people, and no, threats will never work. But what else can we do? We're already over there, and all the bleeding heart fundamentalists in the U.S. are watching to make sure our troops aren't too rough with them, or they picket the White House.
The only way to deal with terrorists is with .19 cents worth of hot lead.

Well, how do you propose we stop? Maybe we can sit down over a warm cup of tea and discuss things. Surely suicidal madmen will take a minute out of their busy schedules to sit down with an American and talk things over. Rationality is obviously at the base of these peoples' thought process.

Although, perhaps by killing the madmen that preach this garbage, we will lessen their roles in the lives of those growing up, so that they will not grow up into a life of hatred based on religion (see links below).

Excellent question.

It's about ideologies. That's the battle ground.

Appeasement doe not work. It has been tried time and again [Ask Neville Chamberlain].

Once the Terrorists and more importantly their neighbors get it through their heads that terrorism hurts them they may eventually stop.

However, it is a guarantee that they will not stop by sucking up to them.
