I am a pretty healthy 23 y/o female and my fiance and I are trying to get pregnant. At the age of 13, I had to have an ovary removed b/c of a cyst. I got pregnant at 16 (with my 1 ovary), but my parents made me have an abortion. He is a pretty healthy 27 y/o, but he smokes. We kind of having a difficult time, and I am looking for insight. My friends have reccommended multivitamins, pre-natal vitamins, using the calendar to document my cycle, and he has even reduced the amount of cigaretts he smokes. We have began to exercise more and eat healthier....Do you have any helpful comments for us?

First of all, my condolences to you for being coerced into an abortion and losing that child. It must hurt somewhat to think of it now when you really want a child to hold in your arms.

Your friends' suggestions are all good ones - cutting back on smoking and eating healthy. You might also eliminate caffeine and alcholol at least for a while. And be aware that too much exercise can hinder fertility for women - you don't want to have too little body fat - yeah, some of it is good!

One very excellent supplement specifically for reproductive health is called Optivite PMT. It helped regulate my cycles among other things.

There is a good book called Natural Family Planning that has a wealth of information on improving fertility and optimizing the chances of becoming pregnant. Another good book is Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition. Both you can probably get cheap on Ebay or Amazon Used Books.
