A few weeks ago this was included in a news story about a homicide, and now I'm perplex about whether someone got:
1)punched with the weapon in hand or
2)was fired at repeatedly.

Pistol whipped means that someone wasn't brave enough to
use the gun. They beat them up with it instead.
