According to my lmp I'm about 9 wks pregnant and am having my first ultrasound on Thursday. The dr. is sending me because of very high HCG levels. Will they be able to see if it is twins this early? I know they can't see the sex yet so why else could I be going so early? Am I just being paranoid or could something be wrong? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

i feel you hun i had one at 8 weeks. i noticed you said ABOUT 9 weeks getting an early ultrasound gives them a more definate due date. yeah they can tell if it's twins this early i was worried about that too. And with your HCG that usually get's higher the further along in your pregnancy you may further along that what is thought. just relax and enjoy seeing the first picture of the baby you'll hbe suprised i know i was it looked like a little mouse ina hole you can see the arm and leg and the umbilical cord it's great. need anything else send me an IM at happypanda4life

I had my first ultrasound at about 5 weeks lmp. I also had high levels of HCG. The Dr. did the ultrasound and figured that my baby was about 9 weeks instead of 5. The further along you are the higher HCG levels, or you have twins... Good Luck

He probably is checking to see if it is twins. I had an ultrasound at 10 weeks to confirm the due date, so he may think that since the HCG levels are high then you may be more than 9 weeks along. Ultrasound due dates are more reliable than lmp due dates. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm 7 weeks pregnant with twins, and my doctor did an ultrasound at 6 weeks. I was really nauseated and sleepy (more than normal I suppose) so my Dr. decided an ultrasound was approriate. Sure enough she discovered I was having twins. Its not too early, and your dr. is probably considering the possiblity of you having twins. Good luck!

Where I live it's routine for every pregnant patient to have their first ultrasound at 9 weeks, I did with both of my kids. It's a great way to really see what's going on in there. Yes, they will be able to see if you are having twins, check the heartbeat, ect. Don't be scared, it's a great time!

no, normally they are just checking to see for multiples and to check the heart beat, that's all, i'm sure there's nothing wrong. they may be able to tell if there are twins if they see two sacs and two heartbeats...Actually, i had my first ultrasound at 6 weeks and i saw and heard the heartbeat and then a week later, i went for my follow up and she told me about my hcg level were high numbers and that was a good thing.

If you are having twins, you can tell at 9 weeks. A lot of doctors do ultrasounds early. Good luck!

Sounds like the doctor is suspecting more then one baby. The ultrasound will tell you how many bundles of joy you are expecting. The doctor may also be thinking there is a possibility that you are further along then you think. An early ultrasound will also confirm dates for you. Take care of yourself, and congrats! If there is more then one, I recommend contacting your local Parents of Multiple Births Association. They are a great resource for parents expecting more then one child.

I had ultrasounds at 5 and six weeks, through fact they theory i replaced into ectopic through fact i replaced into in extremely some soreness. the 1st one would not quite make any distinction, they'll estimate how some distance you're and around whilst they think of is 12 weeks they'll do a relationship test and inform you for specific.

They should be able to see if there are twins, my friend had an ultrasound at 7 weeks and they found two little peas in her pod, so I am sure at 9 weeks they will be able to tell you if you are expecting one or two.
You shouldn't be worried, ultrasounds are actually exciting!
Congradulations on your pregnancy!
