Not only does it have the largest database, and the fast load time (i.e. minimum bs), the search algorithm used to decide which results are most relevent was at one time, one of a kind. Today more and more search engines follow suit with google and how they perform a search, but nobody does it like google. Many of the search engines you might be used may be "powered by google"

I have been computing and searching for things online for years. I used to have AOL and did my searches through it...like 15 years ago or so. I complained to someone that I wasn't finding what I wanted on the internet very easily. I was told to try www.dogpile.com and I liked it because it seemed to go about searching differently and I was able to do much more with those results. Then I heard someone talking about Google so I tried it and I found that I received many more "hits" for what I was searching for. It just seemed to reach more people, more websites, etc. Well then I recently had a virus on my computer that made all of the google "hits" redirect to shopping websites so I switched back to using Dogpile, which now searches google too and it worked just fine. Seemed to be fewer "hits" and a tad slower but it worked. People register or submit their websites to various search engjines to form a web presence to get business, to be accessbile to friends and family, etc. and once I realized it was a virus I had and not something to do with Google, I cleaned it up and went back to Google. It is a very clean looking website that is easy to read, easy to learn how to "limit" one's search to make finding what you want easier and that's why it is popular to me anyway.

Google's search tends to go on the content of a web page (the stuff inside of it). Yahoo! favors the title of a web page (that is, the html that appears in the bar at the top. Each has its advantage. </p> <p> <small> 2007-04-02 15:10:28 · <a href="#answer20070402151028">answer #3</a> · <span>answered by <u>fjpoblam</u> <b>7</b></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>0<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> <div id="answer20070402151034" class='answer' > <!-- <b>Answer #4</b> --> <p class='answer-content' lang="en"> Googles fast search engine and beta options etc. making finding fast results easy!! </p> <p> <small> 2007-04-02 15:10:34 · <a href="#answer20070402151034">answer #4</a> · <span>answered by <u>pinkash119</u> <b>1</b></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>0<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> <div id="answer20070402150952" class='answer' > <!-- <b>Answer #5</b> --> <p class='answer-content' lang="en"> google has been around a long time and supposedly searches more web pages/pictures etc than any other search engine<br /> theres nothing really special about google <br /> although i LOVE it </p> <p> <small> 2007-04-02 15:09:52 · <a href="#answer20070402150952">answer #5</a> · <span>answered by <u>Anonymous</u></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>0<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> <div id="answer20070402150932" class='answer' > <!-- <b>Answer #6</b> --> <p class='answer-content' lang="en"> Google has the largest database of sites and it puts the most popular at the top.<br /> <br /> It's also very fast </p> <p> <small> 2007-04-02 15:09:32 · <a href="#answer20070402150932">answer #6</a> · <span>answered by <u>Nishant</u> <b>2</b></span> · <span>0<span style='color:green;'>⤊</span></span> <span>0<span style='color:red;'>⤋</span></span> </small> </p> </div> <div id="answer20070402150857" class='answer' > <!-- <b>Answer #7</b> --> <p class='answer-content' lang="en"> Google has the largest database of sites and it puts the most popular at the top.<br /> <br /> It's also very fast.<br /> <br /> It also doesn't have loads of crap you don't need loaded up every time you want to search for something.
