Hi Dharma,

My friend had a 1957 chevy with a 265 cubic inch V8 and 3 Speed standard transmission. Like everyone else said, we called it it three on the tree. Someone above noted the small vent windows, we called them breezies. I can even remember vacuum operated windsheild wipers that would stop working when you drove up a hill (no vacuum when engine was working hard). Yes, the good old days (when cars didn't actually run or work that good.

There was four on the floor and there was three on the tree, your high beam button on the floor, pull the choke out of the dash to start, vent windows, flat tires every month... ah the good old days.

It was either "3 on the tree", or "4 on the floor."

my dad had a big truck like that... burnt orange... ugliest Ford I've ever seen. I'll never forget stalling that thing multiple times while trying to get to work one summer.
