Watch out for rip-offs, most "Invention companies" will say how great it is to get your money.

Why not make some and sell them on the net, it is cheap enough to not need a backer.

Document your design plans and mail it to yourself, this gives you a date verified by the US Post Office that can be verified.

Then work on getting it patented.

Unfortunately, developing an invention takes thousands of dollars, even for simple ones. There are venture capital groups that exist to provide funding for specific markets, but they are typically for start up companies that plan to go public. They work with companies who have business plans, a concrete product and a comprehensive market analysis. (not to mention they take 85-90% of the profits) All in all, a great idea alone won't cut it.

That being said, I think your best option is to consider bringing in partners to break-up the investment and share the risk. This may include friends, family and/or coworkers. Take the product as far as you can on your own dime, and then present it to everyone you know. If it really is a great idea and you offer a fair return, you should have no problem raising some seed money to go further.

The Patent Office offers a Provisional Patent for only $100. This allows you to legally claim Patent Pending for 12 months. Also, there are legitimate invention companies out there. (stay away from the "Free Inventor Kit" ones and research each through the BBB and FTC)

with the internet, a person can invent, make, and market their products all by themselves.

***be sure to first patent whatever youve invented, before showing it to anyobdy***

and then, be sure to have a lawyer draft you a 'confidentiality agreement'. you will need to make sure anyone you present your idea to signs this BEFORE you show them your full idea.

you can go to a venture capital firm for seed money if you have to. you can search the net for reputable firms.

a quick search on the web found me www.patent-ideas.com ... this seems to have a lot of useful info on patents, trademarks...etc.

good luck and hopefully you'll strike it rich :)
