Since your computer was reformatted, all your drivers (softwares which run your hardware) have been deleted. If you have installed windows xp most of the latest hardware would have already been installed by the OS itself. But in case of your sound card or your cd rom drive that has not happened. You have two options here. If you know the specifications of your computer you can visit driverguide.com get a free account and download the drivers you need based on your system specifications or you may visit your manufacturer's website under support>drivers and downloads>you may be able to get a list of all the hardware your computer is running. Just click on it and your driver will download and install! Once this is done make sure you save your settings and reboot. Sound should be restored

First, try loading the motherboard INF file, available at the mfr driver site. That might fix all your issues.

Once that is installed, your just need the normal drivers for anything non-operating. Check your Device Manager to check for the status (Right-click My Computer, Manage, Device Manager).

Try reloading the CD software and refreshing the sound card driver.

When you reformat, you lose all the hardware drivers. Mobo, sound, video etc. You will need to go to the pc mfgs site and download them.
