You should never ask for nor give your own personal information on any public forum. There are no laws - unless you are giving someone else's info - and it's against the user agreement.

I don't think there are any privacy laws...usually they'll have terms of agreement that they make you accept when you register for forums. Since by accepting you agree to their terms, they only need to follow whatever privacy restrictions they outline in that agreement so be sure to read over it carefully.

there isn't any. a website/forum is private property of hte invidual who owns it. so any information posted is the responsibility of hte person posting it, and the owner of the board/forum/website.

as far as financial institutions on line however they are required to make sure your information is secure, and have security in place to prevent the hijacking of your account information.

if someone is asking for personal information on a forum/ you should report it to the moderators/owner of the website in question

as far as i know there are no laws against asking for personal information as long as its giving voluntarily
but be careful many chat rooms are monitored by police and other agencys
although many chat rooms have rules against such questions
