I have a spare Samsung CRT monitor 17" size. I am interested to use it as TV, but without using the CPU. Any good suggestions & how much it would cost to do so ? Thanks

Buy a GADMEI TV Box. It works without a PC.

Depends on what inputs you have on the monitor. If you have composite, s-video or component in, you can hook it right to a cable box or VCR/DVD. If not, you might be able to get a converter to go from your cable box and change the signal to an RGB(D-sub) or DVI signal. Check Radio Shack, they have all kinds of doodads for that kinda thing. With some clever converter purchases, I'm sure you can do it.

If you had a pc you could add a tv tuner card to it and plug that into a your monitor then you could have tv on that monitor but trying to build a tv from a monitor could be hard and dangerous capacters inside hold a charge like a battery one touch could fry you!

It is possible to replace the picture tube. However, this is likely to be both expensive and possibly time consuming with respect to adjustments like purity and convergence. When replacing:

Discharge both the old and new tubes before you start to be sure you won't have any unpleasant surprises.

Take extreme care when handling - at the very least, a slip can result in a broken neck and a bad and expensive day.
