Open pit covers a large area visible above ground and is mined through roads that wind around the outside of the opening, and are mined by heavy equipment. Under ground mining is done through shafts and tunnels and is much more dangerous to personal safety.

One is done in an open pit, the other is under ground. I will see if you can figure out which is which.

i would guess that an open pit minning spot is just a hudge hold in the ground that they go deeper and deeper to find stuff. A underground mining location is where they actually build a tunnel into the ground and continue down that way kinda like an ant farm.

An "open pit" is generally very wide with high side walls and it is not defined as a tunnel or shaft.
