The only thing I would be concerned about is the artificial sweeteners in diet drinks. Check the labels, but I think caffeiene free would actually be better, since they don't use aspartame. You should limit your intake of things like that, anyways, though. If it makes you feel better, I drank almost nothing but Pepsi when I was pregnant with my son (I am NOT suggesting that you do this), and he was not affected at all. I didn't have morning sickness with him- I had 24/7 sickness, and the doctor told me that if that calmed my stomach, drink it, so I did. You should be just fine. Those are tough little guys/girls in there, I am a firm believer in that.

Well, you can buy caffeine free pop that is sugar-sweetened and not diet. If you want to skip the caffeine, then stick with those. As far as the nutrasweet (aspartame) in diet sodas, I would stear clear since it's never been approved as safe for pregnant women (or children for that matter). I drank some diet sodas once in a while with my last pregnancy, because I had never thought of it as being bad. But I also got bad headaches and felt crankier when I drank them. It's good to try to limit sugar, but if you are going to use a sugar subsitute, stick with Splenda, since it's been approved for pregnant women and most doctors agree that it's ok. Coke makes diet coke with splenda, and it tastes really good! Just remember--everything in moderation. Good luck!

I avoid caffiene and diet because of the artificial sugar, but still drink an occasional pop. I choose 7 up too! It does feel good on your stomach and can be a refreshing treat. Any time my hubby had beer, I make him buy me root beer in bottles too! haha. You will be fine. There are people who do much worse during pregnancy. a pop here and there won't hurt you or baby in any way.

Diet is actually worse, it has the artificial sweetners in it, and those are actually really dangerous. My doctor said I could have two a day. I try not to, but strangley I am craving them, so I give in, but then will go a while without having one. Coke helps with nausea, not pepsi or any diet or others it is only staright coke. Just make sure you take vitamins and eat right, try to have juices and milk and water,(since there are chemicals and you really don't want your baby to get it unless you are really craving it) but if you have to have it, then do, just do it in moderation. I am not normally a soda drinker, but with this pregnancy I am craving it, so my doctor said if you are going to drink it, drink coke for the nausea and limit it to no more than two a day.

I believe it's only the caffeine that you should worry about. Drinking pop that is caffeine-free should be fine; however, real fruit drinks would probably be a better idea. Even caffeine-free pop is pretty loaded with sugar.
I do, however, think your friend is over-reacting by becoming "very upset." There are a lot worse things you could be drinking, and a couple of caffeine-less drinks isn't much to worry about!

It's safe, but ease up on it. The carbonation can cause kidney problems in you. I wouldn recommend no more than 2 cans a day total. Note that fake sugar can cause problems such as diarrhea.
Your friend is overreacting. Ginger tea will actually work better than 7 up to reduce tummy upset.

You are fine! It's totally safe to drink about 2 caffiene drinks a day. It's when you are drinking latte's and high caffiene drinks that are bad. You can have like 500 (mg, i think) of caffiene a day and a can of pop (not like M.D. or code red) but normal stuff has about 40 to 60 mg. So don't freak out about it. 7-up is caffiene free and so is all Fanta drinks. What you don't want to drink is diet drinks. The artifical sweetner isn't good for the baby so I've heard. My o.b.'s wife is pregnant and she drinks her cup of coffee every morning. As long as you don't go crazy and it sounds like you wouldn't!
Best of luck and don't let people scare you!!

In the book week by week pregnancy they say 300mg of caffiena a day is ok. 1 cup of coffee is 150 or more depending where it came from and soda is only 50mg per can. I used to drink coffee but since I have been prego 35 weeks I have 1-2 sodas a day instead and drink decaf coffee in the morning. Your ok.
Congrats and good luck

Dont do diet, they are right, the artificial sweeteners arent that great for you. However you could go with Diet Coke with Splenda that is basically what i drink now all the time, and diet orange soda, they have no sugars and are caffene free also. (think) anyways with both my girls i switched to caffene free coke or water, well i forced the water down with some lemon in it, couldnt stand it any other way. and they are both fine now!

It is FINE. I am pregnant with my third child and caffeine free soda is safe, just empty calories and you CAN have up to 3 servings of regular soda or coffee a day as well, unless you have high blood pressure. Green Tea does wonders for nausea.
