I am have decided to buy either the Britax Marathon or Decathlon car seat for my 7 month old. He is 20-lb and 26 inches long. I have a Chevy Cavalier Sedan. Which one should I buy and is there a place that I can get them cheaper than $250? Are the ones on ebay really knockoffs like Britax claims?

The Marathon and Decathalon have the same shell, just some minor differences. It may come down to which one has a cover you like better. :-)

The Marathon is the basic of the three seats (the third being the Boulevard, which you are not considering). It has 17" top slots (forward facing a seat is outgrown when the shoulders are above the top slots OR the top of the ears goes over the top of the seat OR the weight limit is reached) and a 65 pound forward facing limit. It has a 33 pound rear facing limit and a rear facing tether (only Britax and Sunshine Kids have this right now).

The Decathalon takes this and builds on it. Same limits, same slot height. Same shell. Instead of a lever release for the harness it has a push button release. Some like this better because a child cannot reach down and loosen the harness. Others find it harder to use. It has different forward facing lockoffs than the Marathon (though I think new Marathons are getting the new lockoffs as well). It does not have the black LATCH bars that the other two do along the sides (makes it a bit easier to fit the seat in next to others should you have to). It has a toddler pillow and infant inserts, both removable later on.

Albeebaby.com, elitecarseats.com, target.com, amazon.com, babiesrus.com The Marathon has been on sale recently (discontinued patterns) for $209. Keep your eyes open!

The Marathon and the Decathlon are very similar..Decathlon has more fancy padding. Both go up to 65lbs using the harness, which is great. I haven't heard anything about knockoffs, but I sell on eBay and know if it is a fake..eBay usually pulls the auction right off. I also wouldn't suggest buying one second hand because you never know how safe they are and if they have ever been in an accident. Good Luck!!
