"Common black snakes" is what everyone calls their local blackish snakes. in many parts of the US, this is the Black Ratsnake (Elaphe obsoleta), which eats mostly rodents, as its name implies. In fact, it mostly eats rodetns in trees, like squirrels.

Not many snakes eat other snakes, however Kingsnakes do. This group of snakes, which includes many that are mostly black, does indeed eat other snakes- however Copperheads are not high on the menu. The venom is not a problem but Kingsnakes tend to prefer smaller, more common snakes.

So- if your local 'black snake' is indeed a Kingsnake, the answer is 'Yes!'

One thing you can try is to Google your state's name and 'snake'. Most states have a list of local snakes somewhere on the 'net.

Black Rat snakes will eat other snakes . But I doubt that they would eat a Copper Head unless it was a baby .

no they dont even if the copper head is a baby it has enough venom to kill the black snake and it will if the black snake gets close enough to threaten the copper head actually babies have a more potent venom than adults so the answer is no unless the copper head is dead already
