I've been trying to resize my monitor settings to 1280x1024 which is the recommended mode (i get a pop-up when my monitor first powers up that says: "not optimum mode: recommended mode - 1280x1024 60Hz". I follow the troubleshooting instructions, but when i go to Display Setting>Advanced>Monitor it says "Default Monitor" and I can't click on the "properties" button like it directs me to do.

I have one of those Samsung flat panel HD monitors, and I've re-installed the drivers but nothing seems to work...

Older glass CRT monitors could be set to many different screen resolutions.

LCD monitors only work properly at the Factory resolution. Your Samsung can only display at 1280 X 1024 AND a refresh rate of 60HZ. That is exactly what it is doing.

You can make the text and Icons bigger, if that's what you are trying to do. Right-click on the desktop and choose Properties, then, under the Settings Tab, click on the Advanced Button.

Under the General Tab, in the Display Pane, change the DPI Setting to 120 DPI. If still not big enough, change the DPI Setting using "Custom..." from the drop down menu.
