I started having these pains today. I'm not sure how to explain them. It kind of feels like someone if prying open my pelvis. And then it will feel like really bad sharp pains in my lower stomach. Not sure what I am feeling but I know I've never had it before. I have had a lot of pains, but none like this. They dont come often, more when I walk or get up and especially after using the bathroom (both urinating and pooping). I am almost 41 weeks and go back to the doctors tomorrow.

What could these pains be and how many of you really knew that you were in labor? People say that you will know, but with all of the pains that I have been feeling, no matter how severe, I just brush them off as B/H because thats all they have ever been. Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much.

The increased pressure and pain low in your pelvis could indicate that your baby has dropped lower into your cervix in preparation for labor and delivery. That would explain the discomfort when walking or using the bathroom. You are getting closer! I am including the signs of how to know when you are in labor.

How to tell when you are in real labor:
Contractions are symmetrical.
Contractions begin at the cervix, move up and around to the back or from the back to the front.
They are regular and occur in a predictable pattern.
They get longer, stronger and closer together.
They do not stop if you change what you are doing and walking may make them more intense.

Remember to call your doctor if your water breaks, even if you are not having contractions. Also, if you are in doubt as to whether or not you are in labor, call your doctor! He is there to help you through your pregnancy and delivery. Congratulations on your soon to be new family addition!

I have had two children and let me tell you as soon as you start getting contractions that don't go away and don't stop when you change position (sitting, standing, walking) you will know as I put it to my hubby it felt like I was being poked with a really big stick in the back while someone else was tearing my stomach away. Not to scare you I just have a back disorder that made it worse. Best of luck to you and enjoy the experience.
