Yes, you can have it in plain sight unloaded, in almost all states!! It is perfectly legal in my state unless they are concealed. Very few here are allowed to have a license for a concealed weapon!

There are 16 states the require a permit or won't allow it

There are other states where it is written into their constitution that they can carry one!

The answer will depend on the laws where you live, or where you plan to drive your car.

Many areas require the registration of certain types of guns. Contact your local police, or a lawyer in your area for details.

Usually a "license to carry" is only required if you want to carry a concealed weapon. If you don't conceal the weapon, you can carry it, even in you car. Don't put it in the glove box, or under the seat. If you have a trunk, leave it in the trunk, but leave it so if you open the trunk, it is in plain view. Having a weapon on the seat next to you may be legal, but it is the best way to make a cop nervous if you happen to get pulled over... Speak to a lawyer in your area for specific details.

I can't imagine that in any jurisdiction in the United States that it is legal to have an unregistered firearm in your vehicle.

Start by researching your local laws to determine if you need a permit to own the firearm and legally have it in your vehicle.

If you are stopped, you could possibly get charged with a felony if you don't have either a permit to carry or the firearm is unregistered.

Good luck.

Depends on your location.

Ahh, Florida. If it's readily accessible you'll need a concealed carry permit - a good thing to have anyway. Otherwise it should be secured, unloaded, not accessable to the passenger compartment.

Local law applies. And even if you had told us where you live, you're relying one someone here to have accurate information and to pass it along without deceiving you. Just pick up the phone and call any local government resource. You'll be guaranteed, that way, to get the correct answer.

No, you cannot own a gun until you have a license...that means even possessing it in your car or house.

No license, no go. If you want to carry it, talk to the local P.D. to see how to get a License to carry a concealed weapon.

you need a permit to own a handgun, you may be able to have a shotgun or rifle, if it's in your car it should be kept in the trunk or they can charge you with attempt to use it maliciously if they get a bug up thier but.
