Both the cam timing and ignition timing are fixed on this model. You can adjust both, but you will need to do the following.

On the ignition timing you would need to purchase an adjustable timing plate, or you can have the holes in your plate machined so it will adjust. You will then need a timing light, dial indicator or degree wheel. You will also need a manual on performance tuning so you understand this process. Another option is to see if anyone races a Ninja 500/EX500 in your area. They would be able to show you how to do this.

For the cam timing you would need to purchase adjustable sprockets or have your sprockets machined so they will adjust. You will also need a degree wheel and a race manual to show how this is done. Again, I would contact any racers in your area as they would have done this mod.

You can screw up your motor really bad if you mess up either of these adjustments. You would also want to modify your carbs, intake and exhaust in order to make use of these adjustments. A higher octane fuel will also need to be run to take advantage of any mods. You can pick up decent power making these mods and still have a mostly stock bike but care must be taken.

Ignition timing is pre-set and not adjustable on that model.
Do you mean cam timing? You shouldn't be doing engine work without a shop manual.
