Lazy, Lazy, Lazy. That's all I have to say about that!!!! It's not a dialect, it's not a language, it's just pure and simple laziness on the part of people on the whole to educate themselves in school or even in the home. It's glorified in music and in movies and the motivation to sound like someone that has an ounce of sense is taken away.

Well, I know what I think, but I'm not going into that! Out here... near Chicago, we have a tendancy to notice certain things if we have to go into schools all over this area. There are actually classes where the kids are being taught English because they speak in Ebonics. English is taught like it is a language that is foreign to those kids!
The only thing I don't understand is why parents of children rely on the public school system to teach their children English because they themselves are either too lazy to learn English, or insist on speaking the language of their home country or community as the primary, and only language in their own homes.
I believe it is a choice to learn how to speak proper English, so when living in the United States, why do people ever choose not to learn it?
Hey... wait, do I get special treatment if I can only speak Frog or Pig Latin?
If you stutter, or have a lisp, or speech impediment, don't you go to speech therapy?
The unfortunate thing is that, I have to tell all who speak Ebonics that there is actually a game people play for fun called street Scrabble. In this game of Scrabble, there are no correct spellings allowed, and sentences that sound like one run on word are a must. Really, it's a joke in some households, but people actually do play Scrabble that way! No kidding!
So, yes Ebonics is like another language. Do you remember, back in the old days, I believe people used to called speaking jive? It's something my Father learned, and taught me at a young age. It just makes some people easier to understand... just like knowing that alot of people of Asian decent have a tendancy to switch their "R"s and "L"s. A large curly fry becomes a Ralge Culry Fly. Believe me, that one has come in handy as well! If you understand people who don't speak English very well, it helps alot with communication!
Blah Blah Blah.......... I could go on, but I'll spare you! Interesting question though!

I remember studying this in Anthropology class.
It's a dialect.
But I wonder why it is in fact called "Ebonics" when it is mainly a Southern way of speaking.
It doesn't seem to matter what color people are here in the South...everyone butchers the English language equally.

No, it's people being too lazy to use actual words or to enunciate those words. It's annoying.
