They are right. But if you have a good Word Processor, the word dictionary appears in your menu in the grammer tools section somewhere. Also, attempt to spell the word, then use your spell check tool, and it will reveal the correct spelling. If you can't recall the word at all, use similar word, then use the thesaurus in your language tools menu to narrow your choices. It may reveal the word you are looking for.
Spend a few hours browsing your word processor. Look at all the menu drop downs, and the options available in each. Write a few paragraphs using as many options as possible, to find out how they work. Then you will have information at your fingertips and be better prepared when you write papers.
