I think it should follow suit in the US.

It was about time someone took a stand against promoting 'too skinny' models. It gives an unhealthy message out to women. Some of these models are extremely underweight and probably carrying dangerously low amounts of body fat. Three models have died from eating disorders, all within the space of 6 months. How much longer will the fashion industry deny that eating disorders are prevalent amongst models and how many more models have to die before the rest of the world takes notice.

they banned TOO skinny models, not skinny models. I think it is a STEP in the right direction. I could go on and on, but to get the point across, I'll leave it at this:
"People" don't realize how impressionable children are. They think these girls (and boys!!) can grow up seeing nothing other than extremely skinny women being held to these high standards, and come up with the idea that life isn't about how fat you are -- all on their own -- and they will be fine! we shouldn't worry about it because these fashion moguls are just making their living, and "the models need to fit into the clothes the designers make"
A horrible phenomenon!!

Ok true being skinny isnt heathy but there is no reason a government should ever have to tell you what yanything you many want to do to your body our fitness can be and i believe they should not be allowed to interfere with your body as long as it doesnt affect others. Spain needs some new law makers there not fixing anything at all why dont they just ban entertainment?

I applaud it. I'm a recovering anorexic, and seeing really skinny, underweight models in magazines and on t.v.s is upsetting. Women shouldn't be required to starve themselves to death just to get a job! I think the only way to really stop the vicious cycle is for agencies or fashion gurus to refuse to hire models below a certain BMI. It's not healthy for the models or for the culture watching them. I do think they should offer those "too thin" models help with their eating disorders, though--it shouldn't be just about banning them; it should be about helping them.

So fat models can have their pictures taken while the skinny models can't? That's pretty interesting. I guess the skinny models will just have to gain some weight or go to a different country if they want to keep their jobs.

I think its completely stupid! Reason behind that is I happen to be under the BMI they banned and Im not anorexic! I eat enough for 4 people and am totally super skinny (96 pounds at 5'5) because i have a uber fast metabolism. so come on people! just bc a bmi is low doesnt mean its anorexia! its totally unfair to some people

i think its ok. i mean people really need to see what the clothes will look like on people of normal size. but i think they should keep some skinny models because most of the time they do look best in what there modeling. its all about how they look in the clothes. if they can find a "not so thin" model that can look good in the clothes then good. if not. keep the thin look

I like the idea. Because real women comes in all sizes and shape. Real women have curves and look feminine. It is not fair to show only one type of woman in a size 0 when majority of women don't look like that. I think we should enforce a healthy and fit body images instead of being obsess with being thin. I think it is good to tell girls their are different types of beauty. Besides, real women buy the designers clothes not only size 0 women.

It has established a sick roll modeling image for young women.
