It is the most spoken language in the world.
There are 5 Chinese restuaurants in my neighborhood and they all speak English and Spanish. They even have fried platanos on the menu.
I'm being serious.

No.I do not plan to learn Chinese.I'm just trying to make a point.Since they are willing to learn other languages to keep their customers happy,we should learn other languages also.

I live in China, alomost ten years now, no need to learn Chinese, they are all learning English, they start out in the K-grade, but I think it would be really nice if you learned a few words and when you went out for Chinese to say hello and thank you and a few other things, it would make them feel good, check out website below to start learning

If you are going to be involved in any type of international trade, then learning Chinese may be very valuable to you. Unfortunately, because Chinese is a tone language, it is near impossible to learn well once you are past puberty. If you didn't grow up with a tone language, it is extremely difficult to learn to recognize the different tones. Furthermore, to learn to read Chinese, you simply have to memorize thousands of characters--there is no short cut other than rote memorization, something a native Chinese speaker spends the first 18+ years of their life doing (and doing, formally, on a daily basis, in school, for 12+ years). I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's hundreds of times harder than learning a similar language (for English speakers, the Romance languages like Spanish).

You are confusing size and influence. Of course many millions of people speak Chinese, but almost all of them live in China. English and Spanish are talked by less people but they live in more countries, so they have more influence.
English is the new Lingua Franca, the new Latin in the modern world, also the Latin alphabet is easier to learn.

You have a good point here, there is gonna be a need maybe soon, since the chinesse is gonna be one of the biggest market very soon.
I have heard about a couple of business that are already getting into that market, they are selling "tacos" in China, believe or not! and they have had to learn chinesse.
It's gonna be maybe, as important to a career as learning english.
