Oil prices skyrocketing above $100.

Other middle east countries turning against us, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia (which, despite its historical differences with Iran, is still sticking up for it right now).

Attacks with unstoppable supersonic Russian cruise missiles on U.S. naval forces in the gulf, taking out aircraft carriers and support ships - a naval catastrope approaching Pearl Harbor.

Domestic strife, mass protests.

A constitutional crisis as Congress challenges the powers of the president to open yet another front without Congressional approval.

Further erosion of our military capability and readiness. Fracturing of our remaining alliances. Essentially zero coalition support.

Radiation poisoning of millions should Iran's nuclear facilities be struck.

Chemical and radiactive WMD falling into the hands of terrorists as Iran's military control fragments. Terror attacks on our soil and U.S. interests abroad which would make 9/11 look like a walk in the park.

Likely regional escalation.

Economic isolation of the United States - a deep recession or worse.

It would really, really suck.

Depends on the US and Iran's "war strategies".

One thought is to strike at Iran's only oil refinery to push disfavor amongst the Iranians. This would limit the deaths but also pressure their government from within.

Should the US do anything that isn't in support of internal change the US will have another Iraq on their hands.

US may be having the most dreaded weapons incorporating the latest technology. Iran certainly cannot match with US on that count. But they have horrifying weapons which can destroy any
part of US at any time. HUMAN BOMBS. No country has ever or
will ever in future will be able to tackle them. No rules have been drawn in such a type of war. Destruction of enemy will be the only motive.

Most of the answers are assuming the US would start the war. I wonder why that is? Are we becoming conditioned to being the aggressors?

Peace in the Middle East and less terrorism world wide when it is over. You must take away the entity that is funding the terrorists, and that would do it.

A full blown jihad against the US, a lot of people dead, landmarks and artifacts destroyed, a world depression lasting for years, nuclear fallout and contamination lasting for centuries.

The 3rd World War!

We don't have enough troops for Iraq and to let them out when they are suppose to get out!

Bush would use tactical nukes and I know he is itching to use a few! Of course, the world is likely to embargo us!
