A-line skirt, a skirt with a slight flare, roughly in the shape of a capital letter A. It was first popularized 1964, when it made its first ready to wear appearance. The A-line cage gown was immediately popularized because it perfectly suited the fresh look and was heartily accepted, possibly because it offered women a release from the dreaded girdle that had packed them into the 36-24-36 obsessed 50's. It fell from the shoulders and had no hint of a waist. Pencil tight clothing gave way to simply straight cut or A-line cut dresses, which were attractive to women because they were viewed as more comfortable for everyday where. The full skirt a leftover from the 1950s, was seen well into the mid 1960s. It was soon ousted by the newer more modern looking A-line dresses.

Actually, I guess I"m out of the loop, cause I did not even know the term till I ran into your question; but you know what, I think style of dress is just another form of communication and a way to connect with like-minded people. Everyone should try out different styles and explore all the ranges of their personalities, I say. But, just like repeated lies become accepted as truth, I don't think you want to get locked in to a style that's not really you. If you'll excuse me, I gotta go put on my clown face now... grins, cryllie "Normal" is not a definition; it's a dryer setting, is all. Per Wiki: By almost all current definitions, emo clothing is characterized by tight jeans on males and females alike, long fringe (bangs) often brushed to one side of the face, dyed black, straightened hair, tight t-shirts which often bear the names of rock bands (or other designed shirts), studded belts, belt buckles, Chuck Taylor All-Stars, skate shoes, or other black shoes—often old and beaten up—and thick, black horn-rimmed glasses.[5][2][6][7][8][9] Emo fashion has changed with time; early trends included haircuts similar to those worn by the Romulans and Vulcans in Star Trek, tightly fitting sweaters, button-down shirts, and work jackets (often called gas station jackets).[6] When referring to a person's personality and attitude, most definitions of emo hold that an emo person is emotionally candid, sensitive, shy, introverted, glum, and quiet.[7] Emo personality is also often connected with writing poetry that addresses confusion, depression, loneliness, and anger, all resulting from the world's inability to understand the author. Emo poetry uses a combination of any of: a highly emotional tone; stream of consciousness writing; a simple (ABAB) or nonexistent rhyme scheme; references to the flesh, especially the heart; heavy use of dark or depressing adjectives; and concern over the mutability of time, love, or both. Themes such as life is pain are common
