My wife and I were on our way home from a family dinner yesterday. 1/2 way though the drive home, my wife proclaimed that she had gotten her period and started yelling at me to 'step on it' so we could get home sooner.

I started going a bit above the speed limit trying to get her home when I noticed an officer behind me. I was pulled over and he asked why we were going so fast.

I explained to him the humiliating situation of my wife having her period and even went so far as to show him the stained seat. He didn't care and kept us there another 30 minutes while doing a background check on me and my marker plates.

Needless to say, in this 30 extra minutes the seat was stained a great deal more.

Had this officer not been so RUDE to keep us there for 30 extra minutes I could have probably just cleaned it up with a sponge...now, I'm going to have to have the seat professionally cleaned.

The ticket cost me 300.00 and I'm going to plean not guilty..am I right in doing so?

An emergency is bleeding to death, dieing , or any thing life threatening.
Having ones period isn't that.. Get a grip.. You could have pulled over to a gas station if she was so concerned.. In speeding you could have endangered the lives of others.
AS for The 30 mins. , why didn't she ask the officer while running info on you, if she could get something from the trunk,to help with.. if so almighty concerned.
I'm a woman... and, had very irregular cycles and heavy . and, was always prepared not knowing when..

take it as a lesson to carry something in the car Just in CASE there is a next time.. ..
BE PREPARED comes to mind..
YOU are responsible for your driving , not her, when someone in the car may say step on it!.. It doesn't mean you are to, but use wisdom...
Be glad someone wasn't hurt..
NO your not right.. embarrassment isn't an emergency..

Women know when their period is due and there is no excuse for not being prepared. A couple tampons fit nicely in the smallest of handbags. A visit to the restroom before leaving the family dinner is simply the sensible thing to do. And no - the beginning of a woman's period is NOT an emergency. If I'd been the cop who pulled you over, I'd have given you two tickets - one for each of you. Hers would be for interfering with the administration of justice by lying about the "emergency"!

Well, that's a heavy flow your wife has there, to cause so much in a short amount of time, do you have a case, No!

Should you plead Not Guilty, Yes!

Even if you are guilty, you can negotiate with the Officer or Judge / Magistrate (depending on area) as to reduce the ticket to something that will not go against your insurance, i.e. reduce to not following traffic control devices.

In the interim while waiting for your court date, may I suggest calling your wife a gynecologist? That's an inordinate amount of menses in a short amount of time.

You can go to court and hope the judge feels for you. But don't blame the cop, he was doing his job. Those guys hear a variety of excuses, i am sure you were not the first person to give him this story. Maybe the only one who was telling the truth, but not the first to say it.

BTW you mention your wife's humiliation once, but your car seat 3 times. I don't think that will play well in court either.

I assume your wife is a grown up woman, she should carry a pad or plug for just such emergencies.

Nope you're not right. Starting one's period is NOT an emergency. An emegency would have been if she were pregnant and was in heavy labor. Or if she were having heart attack symptoms. Having a period is not an emergency and the stained seat of the car can be easily cleaned.

If you plead not guilty you will lose and you will pay court costs. A period isn't a matter of life or death you stupid man you. If you received a $300. ticket then you must of been speeding way to fast and you deserved the ticket. Maybe by the policeman stopping you he saved your wife's, yours or someone else's life. You could of killed someone else or their children by speeding, over something as stupid . Not only do you deserve the ticket but I hope youre stupid enough to plead not guilty. You and your wife are proof you can't fix stupid, and stupid people shouldn't breed.

You can plea not guilty, you have that right. As to whether you will win or not, depends. Will the officer show up on your court date? If he/she does show up, does the officer have video footage of the offense? If so, you will not win, because although your wife and yourself may view this incident as an emergency, the courts will not see it that way. Good luck.

I think that there is more to the story, like your temperament and demeanor. My advice is pay the fine, this show could cost more in court. What kind of seat was it? A really expensive one I bet and your wife was less then cordial about the embarrassment, sounds like a utube moment.

Getting your period is not a medical emergency. I think you don't know what you're talking about and frankly, I think you're making this up.
If your wife started yelling at you to "step on it" she's a over-reacting control freak and you guys probably need counseling (especially if this kind of yelling happens very often)

You must have been going WAY over the speed limit for your ticket to be $300.00 But I don't think they will consider that a medical emergency.
