Hi! I am in LOVE with knitting and crocheting and go many places with my yarn and needles. I always have them in one certain bag, but realized lately how nice it would be to be able to sew together and bag that has specifically long little pockets for needles and hooks, and many some other zipper pockets too. Does anyone know of a place or website where I could find an actual SEWING PATTERN for this, as I am not too good at sewing my own ideas up.

Butterick also has a very nice pattern that you can pick up in a fabric store or maybe on ebay. Sometimes Joann Fabric will have .99 cent pattern sales.

You start with two squares or rectangles of a height and width that you feel comfortable with. then you cut a length that will be the same width, but slightly shorter than the other two, and an additional strip that is roughly the right height for your crochet hooks. Layer these two pieces over what would be the side of your work bag - outside, inside, whichever you like. The next step is to sew "pockets" into these pieces, approximately the right width for a pair of needles. You can repeat for the other side for more storage. Then you would put right sides together and stitch the sides and bottom of your bag, making sure to include ALL layers of fabric. The final step is to add a handle - this could be a bought handle or a handle you make from an additional strip of fabric. I recommend reinforcing a fabric handle with an interfacing to give it more body. If you use a bought handle, add tabs to attached, if you use fabric handles, simply attached them to the bag with a reinforced stitch. There you have your project bag - also, Knit Bits has a great set of project bags, which I own, that make carrying your projects, plus your everyday pocketbook stuff and cinch. Good Luck!

Hello - I love to have a big cloth bag (like Vera Bradley) that I can take everywhere & have a pattern, yarn & everything I need, even al my purse stuff, sometimes I even have put my little dog inside too :-)

I do not know of an actual pattern, but have purchased bags on eBay and am buying knitting kneedle and crochet hook cases now. If you do a eBay search for knitting bags you will se some fine examples. Good Luck and Blessings to You!

I use an open canvas tote bag and made a pocket insert from a carpenter's apron. I got the idea from an old Martha Stewart Living magazine (April 2003). You cut the ties off and attach them about 3" in on both sides at the top, make loops in the ends to fit over buttons that you add to keep the insert attached around the straps of the tote bag. The pockets are perfect for needles, scisors, guages, stitch counters...
