The difference is all tax.

In other countries, especially in Europe, the voters seem to acquiesce in their governments charging what I can only describe as astronomical taxes on fuel.

We in the US think they're all crazy. The sky-high taxes hurt their economies, slowing economic growth and costing jobs. It's one factor in keeping the American economy the world's most vibrant.

High fuels taxes are regressive. They hit the less-wealthy harder than the rich, since both the poor and the affluent pay the same amount. They drive up inflation by increasing the price of just about everything people buy.

In Iraq, during the Saddam regime, gasoline was cheaper than water! The reason that gasoline is so expensive is that politicians are owned by the oil companies.

If the free market took over, we would have cheap energy. Oil is NOT rare. It is found all over the world. Politicians, who are bought and paid for by politicians, prohibit anyone else from getting oil out of the ground. They try to convince us of how concerned they are for the environment. All they care about is themselves.

The European nations are no different. They're politicians have all been bought and paid for by special interests. They're politicians have sold them out to the European Union.

Primarily because our government does not tax it as highly as other governments. It may also be a factor that U.S. companies, such as Exxon Mobil produce more than other companies, and their production costs are lower for U.S. production than for most other countries.
