Excellent question. We (USA) always complain about the high cost of gasoline, yet we pay significantly less than other countries.

Some reasons why we pay less might include:

1. We produce our own oil. In fact, we can produce enough oil for our own country without needing any from OPEC.

2. We buy a lot of crude oil from OPEC -- volume discounts?

3. We grow a lot of food and we export that food to countries that need food and just happen to have oil.

4. We have access to vasts amounts of medical supplies and drugs and we export these medical items to countries that need medicine and just happen to have oil.
