Why do mufflers leak a type of fluid out of it?

What you see is water. There is water vapor in the air, and after combustion, it doesn't burn, and it is compressed, and as it is expelled from the engine, it begins to condense on the inside of the pipe and muffler, similar to the condensation on a cold glass.
In addition, the catalytic converter reduces some of the pollutants in the exhaust from carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and oxides of nitrogen into carbon dioxide and water vapor (CO2 and H2O).

It is usually a mixture of moisture condensates and oil or unspent gasoline. Your car is an air breather, and thus has to exhale, in so doing it creates small amounts of water as a by-product of the hydrocarbon reaction. Small amounts of vaporised oil and unspent gasoline leave the combustion chamber with the exhale of air out the tail pipe. That's what your seeing.

It's just condensation if it's clear .If it's anti-freeze then you have a head gasket problem.
