That depends on who is managing the outsourcing and who is doing the work. Everything Bush's cronies have outsourced to Halliburton has been a complete, unmitigated disaster frought with fraud, waste, and incompetence.

But when outsourcing is done transparently, with competitive bids and appropriate contractual accountability (with carrots AND sticks), and by competent companies, it can work pretty darn well.

An even better solution would be for government (particularly the federal one) to STOP DOING THINGS WHICH IT IS NOT CONSTITUTIONALLY ESTABLISHED TO DO!! The Department of Education comes to mind. Totally unconstitutional, should be dissolved. Cut the staff, the corresponding taxes, and let the local and state governments do it - as is mandated by the 10th amendment (reserved powers).

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved for the States respectively, or to the people."

Even with outsourcing, I think the same people that answer the phones now would answer them then.
Their names all start with Nobodyshererightnow.

Nothing except it would require even more money to run the government than it already does. Private companies would charge a fortune so that they could make huge profits, and our taxes would go up.

And no. They would have absolutely no incentive to answer the phones unless you agreed to give them your credit card number and pay for premium services.

Yes they would answer the phones then, however you wouldn't be able to understand them, oh wait a minute, it is hard to understand them now. Well we could get government done cheaper. .

We already have to a great extent. Why do you think our immigration laws aren't getting enforced? Why do you think Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderone and Hugo Chavez can set up shop to have their people vote (on american soil) for their candidates?
