You obviously have access to a computer. Make an advertisement flyer with your phone number. ADVERTISE that you are available for window washing and yard work. Work at least one hour per day passing out flyers. Someone will hire you.

You will make more money washing windows and yard work than babysitting. Also there are fewer problems.

Come to the job with your own equipment. Work hard and you will get referrals.

Save a portion of your money.

The Rule of 72 is an easy way to approximate how long it will take your savings to double. Just divide 72 by the interest rate you earn to determine the number of years it will take your money to double. It shows the way money can grow so much faster with a higher rate of return.

Go to Yahoo finance. Learn about various stocks. Get an account with Scottrade. Go to manifest investing to evaluate stocks (paid subscription). Practice day trading. If a stock goes up even 20 cents you can earn money. Sell the stock and buy another stock. Daytrading is very risky so do not be greedy. At the end of the summer put your money in a mutual fund with a professional manager. Focus on your studies.

Getting a master's degree (in any field) is an almost certain guarantee of financial success. Don't do drugs. Don't have an unplanned pregnancy. Don't have a rocky romance. Those are things that will take you off track.

When I was 12 I worked for my uncle's nursery with migrant workers, I had to get a SSN and it was my first real job, and I did it during the summer so I could have money to spend on a trip to Europe.

That was totally on-book work too, I think migrant workers are allowed to work alot younger than 16, but don't hold me to that, I am just talking from my own experiences.

You could always see what landscapers might need an extra hand, odd jobs, that sort of thing too.

When I was 12 (many moons ago) I had a paper route. This day and age, that may not be so safe unless you have parental supervision.

I also mowed lawns, and painted curb address numbers for residential homes and businesses. Made a lot of money doing this too!

Babysitting is always good if you are mature enough.

Mostly run errands and yard work. When I was that age, I tried some of everything. I ran errands for elderly neighbors who didn't or couldn't get out as much. Small things like going to the store for them and cleaning. Babysitting of course, nothing too much for a 12 y.o to do though. Except have fun.
